The Government of India said in Parliament on Thursday that there are 18 Indian citizens in the Russian armed forces, 16 of which have been described as “missing” by the Russian side. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh also shared information about the state-wise residence of 18 Indian citizens in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, which told that nine of them from Uttar Pradesh, two from Punjab and Haryana and one each and one Chandigarh , Maharashtra, Kerala and Bihar are from Jammu and Kashmir.
In response to another question, Kirti Vardhan Singh said, “In the ongoing war, information about the killing of 12 Indian citizens involved in the Russian army has come out.” He said that we give priority to the safety and welfare of all Indian citizens abroad and take appropriate action if there is any demand for assistance.
How many Indian youth are trapped in Russia?
The government was asked how many Indian youth are still trapped in Russia and serving their army and what kind of steps have been taken by the Indian Embassy in the Ministry of External Affairs and Russia to bring them back. He said that according to the information available, 18 Indian citizens are left in the Russian armed forces, out of which 16 persons have been informed by Russia.
He said that Russia officials have been requested to give information about the remaining Indians in the Russian armed forces and ensure their safety, health and early release.
