On Tuesday (June 24, 2025), the Supreme Court refused to exemption to surrender to the accused in the murder of wife for dowry and said that participating in Operation Sindoor does not give you a permission to atrocities at home.
The accused of killing his wife said in the Supreme Court that he is a black cat commando and was also a part of Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. He had sought a permission from the Supreme Court to surrender to the police. However, the court rejected his appeal and also reprimanded him.
A bench of Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan and Vinod Chandran of Justice made this comment while hearing an appeal filed against an order of Punjab and Haryana High Court. The High Court rejected the person’s appeal and retained his sentence.
The Supreme Court initially expressed reluctance in exempting the person. Senior advocate Vikram Chaudhary, appearing for the petitioner, said that the person Was participated in Operation Sindoor . He said, ‘For the last 20 years I have been posted as Black Cat Commando in Rashtriya Rifles.’
Then the bench said, ‘This does not allow you to torture the house. It shows how fit you are physically, and how you could kill your wife alone, strangled your wife. ‘
The bench said that the petitioner was convicted for a serious crime, so this is not a suitable case to give him a discount. However, the Supreme Court issued a notice in the case and sought a reply from the defendants in six weeks.
