The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken major action in the All India Services Officers Co-operative Group Housing Society land scam in Guwahati, Assam. The ED has attached eight assets worth Rs 94.22 lakh. These properties are being told of accused Rajendra Nath. Also, a charge sheet has also been filed against Saukti Goswami and Rajendra Nath in this case.
The matter started when this society of Guwahati had planned to settle the colony for IAS, IPS and IFS officers. For this, there was a deal to buy 86 bighas of land and the society gave an advance of Rs 3.60 crore to Saukti Goswami. But the society never got the land. Later only 50 lakh rupees were refunded and about 3.10 crore rupees were grabbed.
What happened in ED investigation,
Police and later ED investigation revealed that Sausty Goswami had signed a private agreement with Rajendra Nath to buy land. Evidence, receipts and statements of witnesses have been found. ED investigation revealed that after the scam, between 2016 and 2023, Rajendra Nath bought several properties. There was no mail in their price and their income. These were considered as illegal earnings i.e. Proceeds of Crime.
The properties that ED has attached include lands from Kukurmara, Jogipara, Barahanti Maniyari, Bangara, Kawaimari and Rampur villages of Assam. The ED says that the investigation of the case is still going on and there may be more revelations in it.
