The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also made some changes in the playing-conditions for T20 cricket. The ICC has re -defined the powerplay overs in T20 matches affected due to rain or any other reasons. This rules will be effective in T20 International from July 2025.
Now if a T20 International match is shortened due to weather or any other reasons, then it has been clearly decided how many overs will be in it. Suppose if there is a match of 8-8 overs, then the powerplay will be 2.2 overs. During this time, only two fielders can live outside the 30-gazer circle.

In the first 8-8 overs match, Powerplay was of 2 overs. At the same time, in the 9 -overs innings, 3 overs were of powerplay. Now if the competition is 5-5 overs due to rain or other reasons, then the powerplay will be 1.3 overs. If there is a 6 -over match, the powerplay will be of 1.5 overs. Similarly, this sequence will continue to grow.
Powerplay overs in rain affected matches:
Number of overs | Powerplay overs |
5 | 1.3 |
6 | 1.5 |
7 | 2.1 |
8 | 2.2 |
9 | 2.4 |
10 | 3 |
11 | 3.2 |
12 | 3.4 |
13 | 3.5 |
14 | 4.1 |
15 | 4.3 |
16 | 4.5 |
17 | 5.1 |
18 | 5.2 |
19 | 5.4 |
After a change in the rules related to the powerplay, the umpire or teams will not have any confusion in deciding how many overs will run. This rule is another step towards making T20 matches affected due to rain or other reasons. After the implementation of this rule, there will now be complete clarity about fielding sanctions in matches which are shortened due to rain or other reasons.
Clarity about the rules related to conversion
Meanwhile, the ICC also changed the convention rules. Now for this, the ICC has instructed all the teams to nominate 5 players for conversion replacement before the match starts. It should have a wicketkeeper, a batsman, a fast bowler, a spinner and an all -rounder. The same player can be nominated in more than one role, such as nominating an all -rounder as both batsman and bowler. However, if he replaces the all -rounder batsman, the referee can stop him from bowling. Or if he replaces the bowler, then he can be prevented from batting.
If the foreign team has a 14-member squad and no additional players are available, then three players outside the playing-11 can be nominated. 2 of them can be nominated for two roles. If a available player is present in that country and is eligible to play for the team, then he can also be nominated.

The conversion should be the Replacement Like for Like. For example, the batsman instead of the batsman instead of the batsman or bowler. The match referee will always have the right to determine whether the conversion substitutes have a large extent like for like. If a batsman is nominated as a wicketkeeper, then the referee can ask him to do wicketkeeping. Or the referee can allow that any other playing-11 player take wicketkeeping.
The team can nominate any qualified player, even if it is not part of the playing squad. If needed in extraordinary circumstances, the match referee can also consider a player who is not in the nomination list, but it has been mentioned in the nomination form.
