The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently made several important changes in the rules of men’s cricket, so that the game can be made more fast, fair and interesting. These rules in Test cricket have been implemented for the new World Test Championship (2025-27).
At the same time, these rules in limited overs (ODI and T20) formats will come into effect from July 2, 2025. The ICC has shared information about the changes made in the rules from all countries. Know about the changed rules …
Stop Clock in Test Cricket After one year of implementing the Stop Clock Rules in T20 and ODI cricket, now the ICC has decided to implement it in the Test as well.
Now in the Test too, the fielding team will get 60 seconds to start the next over. The violation will have a penalty of 5 runs on the bowling team after two warning. If the bowling team is batting first, then 5 runs will be cut out of the total runs. If the bowling team batting later, then 5 runs will be cut out of the total runs scored by them. Rule 2025-27 is applicable in the World Test Championship.
Large fine on short run The ICC has also taken a big decision on the matter of short run. Intentionally, there was a fine of 5 runs for taking short runs. According to the new rules, if the batsmen do not deliberately complete the run to steal the extra runs, then the umpire will ask the fielding team which batsman they want on strike. Also, the batting team will be fined 5 runs.
The ball will not change if the saliva is applied The ban will continue when applying saliva (saliva) on the ball. However, it will not be mandatory to change the ball by accidentally applying saliva. The umpires will change the ball only when there is a huge change in its position, such as the ball is very wet or has extra shine.
The umpire will take this decision completely at his discretion. If the umpire feels that there is not much change in the position of the ball, then it will not be changed.
The ICC had banned saliva on the ball during the Korona period (2020).
Big rule changed on catch too The ICC has also changed the rules regarding catch. The batter is caught out and he proves wrong in the review, but if the ball is on the pad, the TV umpire will also examine LBW. During this time, the umpires will be considered out if the call is out.
At the same time, the catch on no ball is also correct, so the batting team will get only one extra run for no-ball. If the catch is not correct, then the run batting team created by the batsmen will be found.
The field umpire used to refer to the third umpire when the first catch was doubt and the TV umpire says that it was no ball, then the catch was not investigated. But now it will be investigated.

According to new rules:
The 5 -over match will have 1.3 overs powerplays. The 6 -over match will have 1.5 over powerplays. The 7 -over match will have 2.1 overs powerplay. The 8 -over match will have 2.2 over powerplays. The 9 -over match will have 2.4 over powerplays. The 10 -over match will have 3 overs powerplays. The 11 -over match will have 3.2 over powerplays. The 12 -over match will have 3.4 over powerplays.
