Controversy over the decision of third umpire Adrian Holdstock during Australia West Indies Test
Sammy was found to be violating Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct. According to this rule, “Players and players will violate the support personnel Article 2.7 if they publicly criticize match officials or degrade a player or team against whom they have played in the match. When assessing the severity of the violation, the context of the comments and their severity should be taken into account.”
The West Indies believed that the outcome of the match changed as Hope and Chase were dismissed for 48 and 44 runs.
Australia scored 180 runs in the first innings while West Indies scored 190 runs and took a marginal lead of 10 runs. After this, in the second innings, the Kangaroo team scored 310 runs and set a target of 301 runs in front of the hosts. The second innings of the West Indies was reduced to just 141 runs in front of Josh Headalwood’s 5 wickets and Australia won by 159 runs.
Sammy spoke to the match referee Jawagal Srinath on these decisions after the second day and questioned Holdstock at the press conference. “You don’t want to put yourself in a situation where you are thinking about some umpires. Is there anything against this team? When you see the decision after the decision, this question arises.
I know that he is here for this series. You do not want to go with that dout in the Test match. So I want to talk about it… so that we can all be clean. Because, at the end of the day you do not want to trust the umpires in the Test match. And our team is not like this. So we just want some clarity about decisions, ”
