Vivian Richards believes that teams can move forward with a lesson from Afghanistan.
New Delhi. West Indies cricketers are forced to watch its match on TV when the legendary teams are doing two or two hands in the ICC Champions Trophy. Reason- West Indies team could not qualify for this tournament. Vivian Richards, hurt by this condition of the West Indies, wants the Caribbean team to learn from Afghanistan to become a strength again in world cricket.
West Indies and Sri Lanka are two teams that have won the World Cup and Champions Trophy title but failed to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025. Vivian Richards, a member of the Steering Committee of ‘International Masters League’, spoke on the issue on Sunday. He said, ‘I am just hoping that my West Indies team can learn from the book of these people (Afghanistan). The players of Afghanistan have filled passion and energy in the game.

Richards said in this online conversation, ‘They (Afghanistan) are not in the world of cricket for a long time as some other teams are probably but the spirit of struggling is amazing. When you see Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy and not to the West Indies, it means that Afghanistan is doing something right.
Richards said that the West Indies will need the efforts of not only the players, but the efforts of all the people involved. Apart from missing the current Champions Trophy, West Indies could not even participate in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.
Richards said, “We will need to bring ourselves back where we were once not only the players, but also the people of the board who are in responsible positions.” He said, ‘I am very angry that the West Indies team with such a huge legacy is not in the Champions Trophy. This makes me feel very sad, because we have been far better.
