Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is once again in the headlines. This time it is in discussion about its new and revolutionary syllabus ie Curriculum which will be applicable from 2025-26 session. Explain that IIT Delhi has completely changed its graduation (UG), Post Graduate (PG) and PhD courses. The new course is based on emerging trends such as flexibility, practical learning, environment and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Know how this new course will prepare students for the future and what is special in it.

The course changed after 12 years

IIT Delhi reviews its syllabus every ten years and this time this process, which started in 2022, is being implemented from 2025-26. The institute has taken opinion from thousands of students, alumni and industry experts for this. Every department has prepared this course by taking feedback from hundreds of people. The aim is to reduce the burden of studies on students and prepare them for the demands of the industry. Director of IIT Delhi Prof. Rangan Banerjee says that we have completely changed our course so that our students are ready for the future. This new course gives flexibility and practical learning, which will take students to new heights.

What is new and special?

Flexibility and freedom of choice
The new course gives students freedom to choose courses of general engineering, basic science and humanities as per their choice. Now students can get specialization in a minor degree or a particular field. The special thing is that a honors program has also been added with B.Tech degree. Also, at the end of the third year, students can apply for the M.Tech program, so that they can take both Bachelor and Master Degries in five years.

AI and practical learning emphasis
AI-based code generators in the course are included in the initial course of programming. This means that students will be taught to use AI responsibly so that they can write complex programs in a short time. Now from the first year, students will get a chance to join their department. Most of the courses will include labs and tutorials, so that students can learn deeply with professors.

Focus on environment and morality
Environment, durability, creative expression and moral thinking have been added to many courses. With this, students will be ready for global challenges such as climate change. All the courses of the first year will now be in small classes, so that the learning experience is better.

Start new programs
B.Tech in Design: Admission through JEE (Advanced) and UCEED
BS in Chemistry: IIT Delhi’s first BS program, JEE (Advanced)
M.Tech in Photonics: Gate or equivalent examination
Changes in M.Tech and PHD also

This change is also special

The syllabus of M.Tech and MS (Research) has also been changed to connect with industries and emphasize project-based learning. It has two mandatory part Capstone Project (in which students have to solve problems through teamwork) and summer internships have been added. Not only this, students can now choose the course outside their core studies. The industry has also been given the facility to do thesis. Also, there is an option to convert to PHD during M.Tech/ms. The PHD course has also been made formal, which is emphasized on independent research, morality and association with industries.

The number of credits in all programs has been reduced slightly. Many departments now have flexible core courses, so that students can take more elective courses. This will support the Honors Program, Minor Degree, Specialization and Advanced M.Tech/MS degrees.
