IIT Madras Campus Sexual Harassment Case – ‘Bring Danda and Pulling Bal’, Sexual harassment with the student in IIT Madras Campus, accused arrest – Sexual Harassment at IIT Madras Campus Arrested Accused Works at A Food Stall in the Campus NC

A 22 -year -old food stall employee has been arrested for sexually assaulting a student in the campus (IIT Madras Campus) of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras Campus), the capital of Tamil Nadu. The incident occurred on June 25 at around 7.30 pm, when another institute student who came to visit the campus was allegedly attacked by a young man working on a food stall within the campus. According to the information, the student with whom this incident happened is doing internship in IIT Madras.

IIT Madras said in a statement that the accused has been identified as 22 -year -old Roshan Kumar of Mumbai, who works in a food outlet called ‘Mumbai Chaat’ inside the institute’s food court. The statement said, ‘An unfortunate incident took place at the IIT Madras Campus on 25 June 2025, where a contract worker working at the Campus Food Court Mumbai Chaat Outlet abused a student from another institute. On making noise, the girl caught the accused by the security guards of the campus and handed over to the local police.

Sources said that the girl was walking alone, when the accused allegedly armed with poles and pulled her hair and sexually assaulted her. The student managed to escape from the spot and made a noise immediately, after which the security guards of the campus caught Roshan Kumar and handed over to the police. The institute said, “IIT (Madras) has a policy of zero-tolerance towards sexual harassment and we are committed to provide a safe campus to all.”

A complaint has been lodged by the Kotturpuram Women’s Police Station in the case. Police said that on the day of the incident, Roshan Kumar took leave citing health reasons. However, later the same evening he targeted the student alone, threatened her with a stick and assaulted her. Roshan Kumar was arrested on the basis of evidence found during the investigation. The Kotturapuram police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law and further investigation is on.
