In January 2025, normal winter was recorded in northwest and central India. During this period, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius above normal. The minimum temperature in Amritsar (Punjab) was 6.1 degree Celsius. Night temperatures were above normal in most states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tamil Nadu.
Spring disappearance before winter
In the last few years, the winter season has become smaller and spring experience has almost disappeared. Winters are now turning directly into summer. The rising temperature in Janriwari has made it warm like March. Reduced snowfall in the Himalayan regions and lack of cold winds have reduced the cold in the plains.
Effect of climate change
Mahesh Palawat, an expert at Skymet Weather, says that dry western winds and clean sky have reduced fog. Winter started late in the hilly states and ended quickly. At the same time, India Meteorological Department (IMD) says that in January, the minimum temperature in most parts will be higher than normal. In the north-west, central and eastern India, the temperature is possible by 2-4 degrees, but the cold is unlikely to increase. After the monsoon and in winter, the trend of increasing the minimum temperature continues.
