Karnataka News: A senior nurse in Udupi, Karnataka ordered a compensation of Rs 13.49 lakh by the District Consumer Disputes Prevention Commission on Monday (June 23), as he had to lose job opportunities in Saudi Arabia due to wrong investigation by Hepatitis C.
Medical examination wrong indicated
Udupi’s 43 -year -old nurse Shivkumar Shetiger was to join the United Medical Response Company in the Gulf country in February. However, before the departure, the national CT scanner in Mangaluru and medical examination at the Diagnostic Center wrongly indicated that Hepatitis C was confirmed in them.
This is a situation that disqualifies candidates under the medical norms of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Distressed by the result, Shetiger conducted a private laboratory in Manipal and a district government hospital in Udupi, in which hepatitis C was not confirmed.
Damages will have to be paid within 45 days
Alleging negligence and use of faulty kits, Shetiger knocked on the door of the consumer forum and claimed that not only his job was lost due to the mistake of the laboratory, but he also had to face emotional and financial problems.
According to the court directive, the Commission ruled on 21 May 2025, after investigating the evidence and listening to both sides. In this, the diagnostic center was instructed to pay a compensation of Rs 13.49 lakh within 45 days. In case of non -payment, six percent annual interest will also have to be paid.
