New Delhi. Australia’s Steve Smith has scored a century in the fourth test against India. He completed his century on the second day of the Boxing Day Test being played in Melbourne. This is his 34th test century. With this, Smith has equaled Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 34 centuries. Steve Smith has now also become the batsman who has scored the most centuries against India. He left Alastair Cook behind in this matter.
Steve Smith was unbeaten on 68 runs on the first day of the fourth Test against India. Like the first day of the match, he was seen in full rhythm on the second day i.e. Friday also. Steve Smith completed his century on the 167th ball. This is his record 11th century against India. He had also played a century in the last test match.
Steve Smith has left Alastair Cook behind in terms of scoring most centuries against India by playing a century in Melbourne. Alastair Cook has scored 10 centuries against India. Cook played 55 innings to score 10 centuries. Steve Smith’s record is even better than Cook’s. The Australian batsman has scored 11 centuries in just 43 innings.
Gary Sobers, Vivian Richards and Ricky Ponting are tied in terms of scoring the most centuries against India. These three have scored 8-8 centuries against India. Sobers had to play 30 innings to score 8 centuries. Vivian Richards has played 41 innings and Ricky Ponting has played 51 innings against India.
