Mutyala Reddy, father of Nitish Reddy, who scored the first century of his career in the Melbourne Test, met former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. During this, Mutyala placed his head at Gavaskar’s feet and saluted him.
Gavaskar picked up Mutyala and hugged him. Gavaskar also cried at this emotional moment. He said, “Because of your sacrifice, India has got a diamond named Nitish Reddy. We know how much you have sacrificed. You have struggled a lot. Because of you, I am crying. Because of you, India has got a diamond. “Indian cricket has found a diamond.”

Sunil Gavaskar gave standing ovation Nitish Reddy made his Test debut in the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). On Saturday, on the third day of the fourth match in Melbourne, he scored the first century of his career. After Nitish’s century, Sunil Gavaskar gave him a standing ovation.

From here I became completely serious towards cricket. I worked very hard and got results. Now I am proud of myself that my father is happy now.”

On Nitish’s century, his father had said – really proud of him. He (Nitish) took my family to this position. He made our family very proud, I thank him for that. I know he is my son, but I can’t stop thanking him.
My son scored his first century at the same place where legendary cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman and Ravi Shastri had played. As a father, my eyes filled with tears. I pray to God that he scores similar centuries in future also.
Nitish, Sundar had avoided the threat of follow on Nitish came out to bat on the third day in Melbourne after India lost 7 wickets in the first innings. India’s score at that time was 191 runs.
