During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic Trinidad and Tobago, India and the Caribbean countries have signed six important MoUs (MUS). These agreements will give a new strength to bilateral relations between the two countries. These agreements will promote the cooperation of both countries in various fields like education, sports, health and culture.
To promote medicinal quality, India and Trinidad & Tobago have signed the Indian Pharmacopia MOU. With this agreement, Indian medicines will get better access to the market of Trinidad and Tobago and quality and cheap medicines will be available to the citizens there. This is expected to bring a big improvement in health services. This agreement will not only strengthen the global credit of India’s pharmaceutical sector, but will also improve the quality of health services in T&T.
Both countries have signed an agreement on the Indian grant aid for the QIPS. This agreement will further strengthen the development cooperation partnership between the two countries. Through QIPS, many small but impressive projects will be started at the ground level in Trinidad and Tobago which will provide quick benefits for local communities and will speed up socio-economic development.
Cultural Exchange Program (2025-2028)
India and Trinidad and Tobago have agreed to the cultural exchange program for a period from 2025 to 2028. Under this scheme, artists, cultural groups and students of both countries will get an opportunity to showcase their art and culture in each other’s country. This program will deepen cultural relations between the two countries.
Mou on cooperation in the field of sports
India and Trinidad and Tobago have also signed MOU for cooperation in the field of sports. Under this agreement, there will be cooperation in organizing sports training, technical assistance and sports events. This will not only provide new opportunities to the players, but will also encourage friendly relations between the youth of both countries.
Cooperation in diplomatic training
MOU has also been signed for cooperation on diplomatic training between India and Trinidad & Tobago. This agreement will be helpful in further strengthening diplomatic relations and will give officials of the two countries an opportunity to learn from each other’s best practices.
Re -establishment of ICCR Chair for Hindi and Indian Studies
The two countries have signed a MOU on the restoration of two ICCR (Indian Cultural Relations Council) chair for Hindi and Indian studies at the West Indies University (UWI). This agreement will promote the study of Indian culture, language and history. These chairs for Hindi and Indian studies will not only enhance educational cooperation, but will also encourage cultural awareness between Indian diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago.
Earlier, PM Narendra Modi was served food on Sohari leaf during a dinner organized by his counterpart Kamala Prasad-Bissar by Trinidad & Tobago, which he described as “great cultural importance”.
The PM also posted some of his pictures on X, in which he is seen eating on the Sohari leaves next to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
Modi said in his post on X that Sohari Leaf has great cultural significance for the people of Trinidad and Tobago, especially for those who are of Indian origin. Food is often served on this leaf during festivals and other special programs here.
Please tell that PM Narendra Modi reached the Caribbean Island on a two -day visit on Thursday. This is the first bilateral visit of Indian PAN after 1999.
