Delhi high court: The Delhi High Court has refused to grant bail to Moiranganthem Anand Singh, arrested for conspiring to wage war against India, allegedly taking advantage of the alleged relationship with rebel groups in Myanmar and ethnic violence in Manipur. A bench of Justice Pratibha M. Singh and Justice Amit Sharma said that there is a danger of absconding and affecting the witnesses.
Court said- threat to national security
The Delhi High Court said that it would be risky to release Manipur’s current sensitive situation and Anand Singh’s violent demonstrations during the previous bail. The court said that the allegations against the accused are serious and they could have far -reaching impact on public system and national security.
Nia Accused alleged, helped from Myanmar terrorists
According to the investigating agency NIA, Anand Singh, along with terrorist organizations in Myanmar, was involved in a conspiracy to incite violence in Manipur. He is accused of robbing arms, planning an attack on security forces and depositing weapons illegally. NIA said that he has concrete evidence against the accused.
Case of robbing police arsenal in 2023
Anand Singh was arrested by the Manipur police in September 2023 for robbing arms from a police arsenal. At that time, four other accused were also arrested along with him. NIA claims that this gang was plotting to wage war against the Government of India by spreading unrest in Manipur.
Why the bail plea was rejected after all,
The Delhi High Court said that the accused Anand Singh does not meet the three conditions required for bail under Section 439 of CRPC.
- Severity of crime- Charges are related to anti-national activities.
- The risk of affecting witnesses- witnesses may be afraid of its effects.
- Fear of absconding- Earlier, his supporters had violent demonstrations.
Unrest can spread again due to release of accused- Court
The Delhi High Court, citing violent demonstrations after the arrest of accused Anand Singh, said that his release can again cause unrest. Incidents like pressure on police stations and threatening the court can be repeated.
