Indian tectonic plates splitting Himalayas: The peaks of the world’s highest mountain, the Himalayas, have always surprised geologists, but far below the sky-touching peaks of the Himalayas, a movement has been going on underground for a long time. Actually, the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly colliding. In fact, this geological collision that started 60 million years ago had created these high peaks of the Himalayas.
At the same time, according to recent research, scientists have revealed that the Indian plate is breaking. This simply means that the land of India can be divided into two pieces. Let us tell you that such an incident had happened earlier with Africa, when Africa was separated from Asia. During that time part of the Indian subcontinent was connected to Asia.
Scientists’ debate going on for a long time
Scientists have long debated its behavior as a result of the collision of the Eurasian and Indian plates. Unlike dense oceanic plates, continental plates like the Indian Plate resist sinking into the Earth’s mantle.
Recent research has revealed to scientists that some parts of the Indian plate may separate. This theory of scientists has been supported by data from earthquake waves and gas samples obtained from Tibetan springs.
Mantle rocks emerging from plate separation
According to the indications of helium isotopes, mantle rocks are emerging due to plate separation. Scientists believe that hot mantle material can fill the void created by separation. Geodynamicist Dove Van of Utrecht University said, “We don’t know that continents can behave like this. “These results can provide new information about tectonic activity and earthquake risks in the region.”
Scientists reveal cracks in Indian plate
Geologists believe that due to different thickness and structure of the Indian plate, cracks have occurred many times. Evidence of rifting has been found in a major area near Bhutan, with mantle rocks possibly flowing into the void.
