India Pakistan Tension Ceasefire at Border Readying Underground Bunkers

Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LOC) and the International Border (IB) and opened fire in five border districts of Jammu and Kashmir without provocation, which the Indian Army responded to. Officials said on Friday (May 2, 2025) that it was the eighth consecutive night when Pakistan opened fire near LoC. This firing is being done at a time when the tension between India and Pakistan has increased further after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April.

Common citizens living near LoC and IB have started cleaning their community and private bunkers, so that they can take refuge in the event of shelling. A defense spokesperson in Jammu said, “On the intervening night of May 1 and 2, Pakistani military outposts opened fire on the LoC located in front of Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera and Akhnoor areas of Jammu and Kashmir with small weapons without provocation.”

He told that Indian soldiers responded to this. Pakistan initially violated the ceasefire in Poonch sector and Akhnoor sector of Jammu region without provoking several posts near LoC in Kupwara and Baramulla districts of North Kashmir.

After this, many outposts located near the LoC in Sunderbani and Nowshera sector of Rajouri district firing with small weapons were violated. Firing was fired in the Pargwal sector on the international border in Jammu district.

India and Pakistan warned Pakistan in a recent hotline conversation between the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), yet the firing is not stopping. After a few hours after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Pakistani soldiers have been firing at various places at various places since the night of 24 April.

Common citizens living near LoC and IB have started cleaning their community and private bunkers in the event of firing so that they can be made worth living. The central government approved the construction of 14,460 private and community bunkers in 2017. Officials said that more than 8,600 community and private bunkers have been built in Samba, Kathua, Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri districts. While the harvesting of crops in RS Pura and Arnia sectors along the international border has been completed, it is still going on in Kathua, Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
