Virat Kohli is the Indian to win the most Test match as captain in England. He is the only captain who has dusted the British in three Tests. Kohli led India in 10 Test matches on England soil and won on three occasions. In 2018, under Kohli’s captaincy, the team defeated the hosts at Trent Bridge while in 2021 won at Lord’s and Oval.
1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev became the second Indian captain to win the Test series in England in 1986. Under Kapil’s captaincy, the Indian team won the three-match series 2–0. This included victory in Lord’s and Handingley. This is the difference of India’s biggest victory on England soil. Kapil did not captain India in any Test match in England besides this series.
Ajit Wadekar was the first Indian captain to win a Test match and series in England. Under Wadekar’s captaincy, India won the third Test by four wickets at the Oval and won the historic 1-0 series. Earlier, Lords and Manchester Test ended on the draw. Wadekar also captained India on the 1974 tour of England, where the team lost all three matches and lost 3–0.
MS Dhoni won India in the Lord’s Test in England in 2014. This great Indian cricketer captained nine matches, but it was the only win. India lost that series 3–1. Dhoni also captained India in the 2011 England series, which was lost 0-4.
Sourav Ganguly won India in the 2002 Test, which is one of the biggest victories of India on foreign soil. It was also India’s first Test match win in England in 16 years. Ganguly helped India draw series 1-1.
Rahul Dravid became the third and last Indian captain to win the Test series in England in 2007. India won the three-match series 1-0, including victory in the Nottingham Test. It was Dravid’s first Test series as captain in England
