The US has deported more than 1700 Indian citizens so far this year. These include 141 women. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh said on Friday (August 1, 2025) that the number of Indian citizens exempted from the US was 5,541 in the last five years (2020 to 2024).
He said that in the last five years (2020 to 2024), the number of Indian citizens exempted from Britain is 311 and the number of Indians exempted from Britain in 2025 is 131. The minister said, “The actual numbers may vary from two reasons. The UK government directly deports illegal Indian migrants with a valid travel document. In addition, emergency travel documents (ETDs) issued to illegal Indian migrants are not fully utilized, as they can appeal against their exile. ”

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi asked the Ministry of External Affairs in a question whether the government has kept the figure of Indian citizens exempted from America since January 2025. In his reply, the minister also shared state -wise data of deported people.
According to the data, 620 out of 1,703 Indian citizens in this period (20 January to 22 July, 2025), 620 were from Punjab, 604 of Haryana, 245 of Gujarat and 10 from Jammu and Kashmir, while six have been ranked as “unknown” state. Kanimoi also asked about the methods of exile for these Indian citizens.
Which aircraft sent Indians back from?
He said, “A total of 1,703 Indian citizens were deported by the US government between January 20 to July 22, 2025,” he said. Among them were 1,562 male and 141 females. ”
According to the data shared by the government, 333 of these 1,703 Indian citizens in February through US military aircraft in March 231 through Charter flights run by US immigration and customs enforcement in March and 300 in July through charter flights of the Ministry of Home Affairs (DHS).
