In March 2023, an accused in the attack on the Indian embassy in London, was granted bail by a Delhi court. The name of the accused is Indrapal Singh Gaba, who is a resident of Hounslo in West London. He was arrested under the UAPA Act on charges of carrying out illegal activities during the protests outside the embassy two years ago.
District and Sessions Judge Vimal Kumar Yadav had said in an order on 29 January that the role of Indrapal Singh Gaba seems limited to the incident of March 22, 2023. At the same time, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigating the case said that the accused had participated in the agitation on March 19 with March 22, which was part of a group.
The court has said in its order, “The NIA is unable to establish any connection with the accused with the incident of March 19, 2023. He was neither present on the spot nor was associated with making any kind of arrangement for demonstrations. . Nothing could be shown in this case that he was part of the conspiracy to perform on 19 March or 22 March 2023. ”
The judge said, “The accused is a clean past, so no objectionable thing could be brought into the record. His involvement could not be shown in any way in the 19 March 2023 incident.” The court said that although insulting national honor was a serious charge against him, there was no charge of violence.
After this, the NIA cited a picture. Indrapal Singh Gaba is posing with AK-47 rifle. Along with this, it claimed that it reflects his criminal tendency. But the court dismissed the argument and said that apart from the picture found in the gallery of the cellphone of the accused, no such weapon has been recovered from him.
The court said that in this era of Deepfac and Photoshop, anything can be created. It is very uncommon that people keep photographed with many types of things. In such a situation, a person can be proved a criminal on the basis of the picture. Indrapal Singh Gaba was detained on the Attari border on December 9, 2023.
