New Delhi. The Indian team is not playing an international match in the next three months. The Champions Trophy 2025 final ended on March 9 and now the players of Team India will play in the Indian Premier League for their franchise team. Although the players of the Indian team did not play international matches, but head coach Gautam Gambhir has already confirmed his preparation plan for England’s five Test tour starting in late June. Toi has come to know that Gambhir has decided to go to England with India ‘A’ team before the start of the Test tour on 20 June.

The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) currently has no designated coach with India A team. It will be interesting to see whether he will travel serious or BCCI’s head cricket VVS Laxman chooses for this role. Ever since Rahul Dravid has taken the role of the head coach of the senior team, BCCI has rotated the coaches from the National Cricket Academy’s pool for India ‘A’ and Under-19 assignments. This will be the first time that the coach of the senior team will go on a tour with an India ‘A’ team.

Sources told TOI that Gambhir is working on a roadmap for the next two years, including 2027 ODI World Cup, World Test Championship and 2026 T20 World Cup. A BCCI source said, “Gambhir has been in discussion with BCCI since returning from Australia. He has expressed his desire to travel with India ‘A’ team so that a clear view of the reserve pool can be found. After winning the Champions Trophy, Gambhir’s some wild card players can be expected to put more emphasis in future. ”

The position of India’s Test team has already worsened after taking over the post of Gambhir in July. India faced defeat of 0-3 from New Zealand at home and 1-3 in Australia. Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Laxman have discussed possible ways to prepare the pool of players of India for Test cricket.
