Captain Shubman Gill, the top scorer (left) of the series (left) and Mohammad Siraj series, on India’s England tour.
Indian selectors will announce the team for the Asia Cup in Mumbai today. It is believed that their decisions may be different from everyone’s expectations. A players like Shubman Gill and Mohammad Siraj, who performed brilliantly in the England tour, may be difficult to make it to a place.
Yashasvi may get a chance in batsmen Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of the T20 team, so his place is fixed. Now the team has to choose 4 to 6 more players for the position of batsmen. Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Verma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rituraj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh, Ryan Parag and Shreyas Iyer are contenders for these positions.
Shubman, Yashasvi and Shreyas were not selected in the last T20 series against England, but the three players showed their strong form in the IPL. However, only 1 or 2 of these are seen getting a place in the team.
Rinku selection is also possible
Gill scored 650 runs in the IPL, but played as an opener. The selectors for the Asia Cup want to keep Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson as an opener. Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s name is under discussion as the third opener, but Jaiswal is currently looking ahead.
The rest of the batsmen are expected to be elected Tilak Verma, Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh. Another batting slot is empty, for which Shivam Dubey and Washington Sundar will be considered. Shreyas Iyer is less likely to be selected.
Jitesh Sharma can enter the team as the second wicketkeeper Sanju Samson is the first choice for wicketkeeper position, he has scored 3 T20 centuries for India in the last 1 year. Rishabh Pant would remain best as his option, but he will not be able to play the tournament due to injury. In such a situation, options are left in the form of Dhruv Jurael, Jitesh Sharma and Prabhasimran.
Jurael got a chance in the last series, while Jitesh and Prabhasimran are in excellent form. However, in view of the previous team and IPL performance, Jitesh Sharma has more possibilities to get a chance.
Siraj selection difficult The selection of Siraj in bowling is considered difficult. Because Jaspreet Bumrah will be the main bowler and one or two of the famous Krishna or Harshit Rana can get a chance with him. Hardik Pandya will also be as fast bowler. Mohammed Shami’s return looks almost impossible.
Kuldeep will live in spin The spin department will have Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakraborty, Ravi Bishnoi and Vice -captain Akshar Patel. Washington Sundar may also get a chance, but his place is not confirmed.
