Antwerp (Belgium): The Indian women’s hockey team’s FIH Pro League continued here on Saturday when the team suffered a crushing defeat of 1-5 against Belgium.
On Saturday, Deepika (sixth minute) gave India an edge but after the intermission, the Belgian team dominated and managed to register an easy win thanks to Helen Breeser (37th and 55th), Lucy Brain (41st minute), Embreen Belenfhene (54th minute) and Charlotte Angelburg (58th minute).
The hosts got a chance to score the first goal of the match on the penalty corner but Indian goalkeeper Savita defended well.
Belgium put pressure on the Indian defense in the second quarter and as a result it found two penalty corners in the 19th and 21st minutes, but on both occasions the Indian defense line thwarted the attacks.
India got the only good opportunity after the interval as the fourth penalty corner but the team could not convert it into a goal either. In the second half, the Belgian team dominated.
Belgium received a continuous penalty corner after this. Savita stopped the 11th penalty corner of the team, but Lucy put the ball in the rebound and put the hosts ahead 2–1.
A minute later, Belgium got another penalty corner but the team could not score a goal on it. Embreen, Helen and Charlotte then scored a goal on the penalty corner to ensure Belgium’s 5–1 victory, the Indian team will again face Belgium on Sunday.
