An incident that shook humanity has come to light from Bolangir district of Odisha. Here, parents struggling with financial crisis sold their 28-day innocent girl for just 20 thousand rupees. As soon as this sensational case came to know, the police came into action and recovered the girl safely. At present, the police is preparing for legal action. A detailed investigation of this case is going on.
According to the information, this case is of Bagdera village in Bhaleigaon Panchayat of Titlagarh sub-division of Bolangir district. It is alleged that Neela and Kanak Rana, who live here, handed over their newborn daughter to a couple living in the Pikmal area of the neighboring Bargarh district. According to sources, the deal was fixed for 20 thousand rupees. However, the accused couple claims that they have not bought the girl.
Titlagarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kalyan Behera said that the innocent girl has been safely recovered from a couple’s house in Pikmal. He has been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). He also informed that no one has been arrested in this case yet, because no formal complaint has been filed so far.
Why did the parents sell the innocent girl?
Leena Babu, chairman in -charge of the Child Welfare Committee of Bolangir district, has confirmed that the girl has been rescued from a house in Pikmal. He said, “Our priority was to evacuate the baby. Now we will start an investigation and lodge a complaint in the concerned police station.” The baby’s biological parents Neela and Kanak Rana are very poor. This is the second marriage of both. Neela has three daughters from his first wife.
What does the couple who buy the girl to say?
Kanak has a daughter from his previous marriage. Citing the financial crisis, the Rana couple allegedly handed over the newborn to another couple. The couple of Pikmal, who were given the girl, have also denied the allegations of buying the girl. He says that he kept the girl only on the basis of kindness and humanity because her biological parents were unable to take care of her.
Why are such cases coming out in Odisha?
Neela Rana said in front of the Child Welfare Committee, “We have not sold her. We have given the girl to her better upbringing, not for money.” This is not the first case when the Bolnagir district has witnessed such a sensitive situation. In November 2024, a woman sold her newborn girl to a private hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh in Lathore area of the same district.
Is there an economic compulsion or an organized conspiracy?
In that incident too, the police and CWC took joint action and recovered the girl safely. At present, a thorough investigation of the latest case is going on. The child is under the supervision of the Child Welfare Committee and the police is engaged in furthering the entire incident from extreme sensitivity to the legal process. It is also being investigated whether it was only financial compulsion or an organized conspiracy was also working behind it.
