In an interview with Hindustan Times, Dr. Jai Kelkar, an ophthalmologist and director of Nio Super Specialty Hospital, said, ‘I drop is a very common medicine for eye. But it should be used with accuracy. Some small mistakes can slowly damage the eyes, especially in conditions like glaucoma, whose symptoms do not appear quickly. Dr. Jai Kelkar also mentioned the common mistakes that people do while putting I drop.
1-using eye drop without advice of a doctor
Using eye drops without a prescription can be quite dangerous. Eye drops with steroids or antibiotic without prescription and doctor’s care can increase the risk of development of cataracts, glucoma or even drug residence infections.
2-Touching or using dirty hands
Touching the dropper with the eye or using dirty hands while applying eye drops can cause an eye infection or the entire bottle can be contaminated.
Do not close eyes immediately after inserting 3-drops
Patients should keep their eyes closed for at least 2 minutes immediately after entering eye drops.
Use of 4-Experienced or open eye drops
Once the eye drops are opened, it should be thrown away quickly or after using it for a month. This reduces the risk of infection or irritation.
5-ignored precautions while using contact lenses
Contact lens should always be removed before applying medicated drops. Wait for at least 15 minutes before applying the lens again.
6. Children and elderly must take help
Children and older people are usually not able to use the idrop properly. Always keep Iderops away from children. At the same time, the hands of many elders tremble. Therefore, in such a situation, the help of a family member should always be taken.
7. Do not ignore warning signs
If symptoms such as severe pain, itching, redness, blurring, discharge or sensitivity to light appear, stop using the drops immediately and contact the eye doctor.
