International Yoga Day: International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21 June. On 27 September 2014, during his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed to celebrate Yoga Day on June 21 worldwide. Subsequently, on 11 December 2014, 193 members of the United Nations General Assembly and 173 Co-Principal countries unanimously approved the United Nations resolution in which a resolution was passed to celebrate 21 June as International Yoga Day.
This day is celebrated to increase awareness about the benefits of the practice of yoga and promote physical, mental and spiritual welfare. Since the year 2015, International Yoga Day is celebrated worldwide through various activities and programs related to yoga and health. On this day, everyone does yoga together for 45 minutes. On this day, different types of activities are provided in the whole country so that the importance of yoga can be understood and it will be encouraged.
Guinness World Records have been found on Yoga Day
The first International Yoga Day was held on 21 June 2015 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rajpath in New Delhi. About 21 yoga asanas were performed by persons from 84 countries around the world and the Prime Minister was also present with them. During this time two Guinness World Records were made. The first record was to be the world’s largest yoga class, in which 35,985 people took part and the second record was to participate in 84 countries. Apart from this, more than one lakh 47 thousand people were connected on Yoga Day in Surat, Gujarat.
The program organized by Gujarat State Yoga Board and Team Surat has set the world record of the biggest yoga training ever. More than 1.5 lakh people gathered on two roads 10.5 km long, divided into 135 blocks and each block had about 1,000 participants, who practiced Yoga together with LED screens and trainers. It broke the previous record of 100,984 participants established in Kota, Rajasthan in 2018.
In the first year, a total of 84 countries participated in the yoga session at the same place and gradually the number of participants from all over the world increased every year and in 2023, a total of 23.4 crore people from all over the world participated in the International Yoga Day program. In2018, during the fourth International Yoga Day in2018, a visit to Yoga Ambassadors was organized with the participants of 22 countries with the help of Kerala Tourism during the fourth International Yoga Day. Apart from this, many Guinness World Records have been set on International Yoga Day.
In 2018, 9.59 crore people celebrated Yoga Day by joining together. In 2024, around 24.53 crore people worldwide attended the festival, which reveals the global appeal of the event. International Yoga Day has become a global health movement, which is uniting millions of people in different countries.
Yoga Day has been celebrated from Eiffel Tower to Mout Everest Base
In 2022, yoga was practiced on 75 heritage sites. In the last few years, International Yoga Day has been celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the world. It has been organized from Opera House to Eiffel Tower grounds to the Cathedral of Brasilia, from the Dead Sea to the base of Mount Everest. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Yoga from the northern lawn of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, in which participants from more than 135 countries did yoga.
Last year, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, in the presence of Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, a total of more than 15 thousand people did yoga asanas together. Yoga Day started in 2015 and the number of people participating in it is increasing every year.
