Qatar, a small country in the Middle East, which has a population of just 30 lakhs and its biggest strength is a lot of wealth. In recent years, all the big struggles in the world, Qatar has played an important role in solving them using their soft power. Qatar has also played a role in the ceasefire between Iran and Israel on Tuesday.
According to a report by the news agency Reuters, Trump first persuaded Israel for ceasefire and then asked the ruler of Qatar to persuade Iran to ceasefire.
After this, Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called the Iranian officials and celebrated them for ceasefire.
This is not the first time that Qatar has played the role of an intermediary in a struggle, but earlier Qatar has been doing such successful mediation.
America-Afghanistan conflict
The US started a fight with the Taliban by attacking Afghanistan after the 11 September 2001 attack. American soldiers and Taliban struggled for two decades and finally the US had to return from Afghanistan. The power again went under the control of the Taliban. Qatar played the role of an intermediary in discussion on the return of American and Neto soldiers from Afghanistan and the status of Afghanistan.
In 2013, Qatar allowed the Taliban to open an office in Doha which was the Taliban’s first office abroad. In Doha itself, a long -term talks between the Taliban and American officials lasted after which an agreement was reached on both sides on 29 February 2020 and the US soldiers returned from Afghanistan.
Russia-Ukraine War
Even during the Russia-Ukraine War, Qatar has played the role of important intermediary many times. In 2023, under an agreement with Qatar’s arbitration, both sides had left more than 15 children captives from captivity. Qatar also gave shelter to the free children under the agreement.
Israel-Hamas War
On 7 October 2023, the fighters of Palestinian organization Hamas took at least 250 people captive in the attack on Israel. Qatar played an important role in rescuing the prisoners from Hamas’s captivity.
Even before this, Qatar contributed to the release of an Israeli soldier. In 2006, Hamas imprisoned an Israeli soldier named Gillad Shalit near the Israeli Gaza border. After years of talks, Shalit’s release was agreed in 2011 and in return, Israel released 1,000 Palestinians.
Qatar has good relationships with both Israel and Hamas sides and Qatar is considered to be the best intermediary among all the struggles in the region.
2008 Lebanese crisis
In 2008, Qatar played an important role in ending Lebanon’s civil war. During that time there was a conflict between Hizbullah and the Lebanese government. The government wanted to demolish Hizbullah’s communication network, which led to the beginning of the struggle. To end this struggle, Qatar had made a Doha agreement which ended the civil war of Lebanon.
Why do the country rely on Qatar as an intermediary?

In the Middle East, the US has built many military base but its largest military base is in Qatar. Despite this, Qatar’s foreign policy is considered independent.
