Abu khadijah killed: Abdullah Maki Musleh al-Rifi alias Abu Khadija, the top commander of the Islamic State (IS), active in Iraq and Syria, was killed in a joint operation of Iraq and the US Army. According to the Reuters report, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani has informed about this operation on Twitter on Friday (March 14, 2025).
How was Abu Khadija killed?
Actually, this operation took place in Anbar province of Iraq. The Iraqi intelligence agency and American coalition forces together carried out airstrikes. Abu Khadija was the deputy Khalifa of IS, who was the head of the organization in Iraq and Syria. He was considered one of the most dangerous terrorists for Iraq and global security.
Iraqi Prime Minister’s statement
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani said, “Iraq has continued its impressive victory over terrorism. Abu Khadija’s death is a major achievement in the fight against the Islamic State.” He congratulated Iraqi citizens and peace loving people for this success.
Abu Khadija was the most wanted terrorist
Abu Khadija was the top commander of the Islamic State and the top commander in Syria. He was also the head of Foreign Operations offices of IS. Intelligence agencies of America and Iraq were looking for him for a long time.
Increased threat of IS and US-Iraq alliance
The US and Iraq signed an agreement to terminate the joint military mission against the IS by September 2024, but the Iraqi officials are worried that the IS may be strong again.
Syrian political instability can also give this terrorist organization a chance to emerge again.

Syrian Interim Foreign Minister Asad Hasan Al Shibani met his Iraqi counterpart in Baghdad. Both countries discussed the possibilities of joint operation against the IS.
