The Taj Mahal is called the 7th wonder of the world, which was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his Begum Mumtaz Mahal, but is there any hole in the roof of the Taj Mahal? Does water drip on Mumtaz’s grave? Has there been a mistake from people who specializes in incredible and excellent craftsmanship? When the response came from the government on this in Parliament, everyone was surprised. Because the Taj Mahal attracts about 80 million tourists every year, symbolizing India’s cultural heritage. This phenomenon has re -exposed the need to conserve monuments and deal with the effects of climate change.
In fact, in December 2024, the government was asked a question on the matter of dripping water from hole and holes in the roof of the Taj Mahal in Parliament. Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had told in Parliament that a few drops of water were seen dripping from the roof of the main dome of Taj Mahal on September 12, on September 10 to 12, 2024 during the three consecutive days of heavy rains in Agra. He clarified that the leak was minor and there was no serious damage in the dome.
During that time, 151 mm of rain in Agra, which was the highest in a day in the last 80 years, affected not only the Taj Mahal, but also Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and other historical monuments.
However, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), accepting the seriousness of the case, immediately started investigating and repairing the Taj Mahal. According to the Superintendent of ASI’s Agra Circle, after examining with drone cameras, there was a small crack in the dome stones and the possibility of war in the metal of the top urn, which led to the leakage. At present, there is no strong information about the hole in the roof of the Taj Mahal, from where the water drips on the grave of Shah Jahan’s wife Mumtaz.
Let us know that the central dome of the Taj Mahal has been designed with a slight slope which delivers the rain water to the drainage point. These systems have been specially made to ensure that the water is not deposited on the roof or floor.
