Former India coach Greg Chappell has questioned the selection of the main spinner in the team of all -rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Chappell believes that Jadeja’s bowling is not effective in England’s circumstances and if India has to return to the five -match series, he will have to take a better balanced team. Chappell said this in his column written in Espncricinfo. He suggested that India should rely on specialist players and not only the team should run with the help of all -rounders.
Jadeja could not leave any effect from the ball in the first Test
In the first Test, Ravindra Jadeja was fed as the only spinner in the team in Handingley, Leeds. However, Jadeja could not make any impact with the ball, especially in England’s second innings when he could not take advantage of the rough of Ben Docket’s off stump. This is why many cricket experts questioned Jadeja’s bowling.

Greg Chappell wrote, ‘Jadeja is not a frontline spinner under the circumstances of England. If his batting is considered useful, then he can get the role of support spinner. Otherwise, there is a need to think again on team selection. He further said that if India has to return to the series, then the team with the right balance will have to be removed.
Chappell also wrote that it is not the right strategy to include all-rounder or part-time bowlers in the team to hide the failure of the top order. He said that if the top six batsmen are not scoring runs, then work on it, but the compensation capable of taking 20 wickets for bowling should be in the team.

“Selectors will have to take adventure decision”
The former coach believes that now the pressure is on the selectors, who have to take adventure decisions. If the batsmen and bowlers are ready to play with risks, then the selectors will also have to show courage to take courageous decisions. Here, India’s Assistant Coach Ryan Ten Doshate indicated in the press conference that Nitish Kumar Reddy may get a chance to debut in the Birmingham Test. The second Test between India and England will be played in Edgbaston, Birmingham from Wednesday, July 2.
