India’s Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from his post with immediate effect. He announced his resignation under Article 67 (A) of the Constitution, citing health related causes and medical advice in a letter addressed to President Draupadi Murmu. In his letter addressed to President Murmu, Jagdeep Dhankhar wrote, ‘I am resigning from the post of Vice President of India with immediate effect while following the priority of health and medical advice.’ He thanked the President for his cooperation and cordial relations. At the same time, the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers also thanked him for his cooperation and guidance.

Jagdeep Dhankhar wrote in his resignation, ‘The affection, belief and respect I got from all the honorable members of Parliament will be accumulated in his heart throughout his life.’ Recalling his tenure as the Vice President, he said, ‘I am deeply grateful to the experiences and attitudes received as Vice President in this great democracy. Being a witness to India’s economic development and unprecedented transformative phase has been a matter of good luck and satisfaction for me. He ended his resignation by expressing unwavering confidence in India’s global rise and bright future.

Jagdeep Dhankhar was sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India in 2022. In the Vice Presidential election held on August 6, 2022, he defeated opposition candidate Margaret Alva. Jagdeep Dhankar got 528 votes out of a total of 725, while Margaret Alva got 182 votes. He was the Governor of West Bengal before becoming Vice President. Jagdeep Dhankhar was born on 18 May 1951 in an ordinary farmer family in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. He completed his early education from the village school. After this, after receiving scholarship, Chittorgarh went to study at Sainik School. Dhankhar was selected at the National Defense Academy, but he did not go.
