Punjab AG Gurminder Singh in Supreme Court: Yesterday two things got in the way. Punjab was closed, due to which traffic did not move at all yesterday Monday. A mediator has also filed an application stating that Dallewal is ready for talks if the union intervenes.
Justice Suryakant: If you need some more time, we are ready.
SG Tushar Mehta: I don’t have any instructions on this.
Justice Suryakant: The contemners (Chief Secretary of Punjab and DGP) have sought 3 days’ time to get Dallewal admitted to the hospital. The Advocate General has also stated some situations orally. In view of this, the application for giving some more time to implement the order of recruitment of Dallewal is approved.
The efforts of the officials went in vain After the court order, Punjab Police tried hard to convince the farmers and Dallewal. On 29 and 30 December, senior officers of Patiala Police were sent along with retired ADGP Jaskaran Singh. He also talked to farmer leaders and Dallewal but they did not agree. The police had also made preparations on Sunday night, but after getting wind of this, no action was taken to forcibly take away the farmers.
Former ADGP Jaskaran Singh had met farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal on Monday.
What did the Supreme Court say about Dallewal in the last 4 hearings?
1. Punjab government cannot be lax In the hearing held on December 17, the Punjab government told the Supreme Court that considering Dallewal’s condition, he should be admitted to the hospital. On this the Supreme Court said that there are sentiments attached to them. The state should do something. He is a popular personality. There cannot be laxity in this. Punjab government will have to handle the situation.
2. Who is saying that a 70 year old man is okay without testing? In the hearing on December 18, the Punjab government said that Dallewal’s health was fine. On this the court questioned that the 70 year old man has been on hunger strike for 24 days. Who is the doctor who is diagnosing Dallewal’s health without any test? He was not examined, no blood test, no ECG was done.
3. Punjab officials asked to take decision on hospitalization In the hearing on December 19, the court expressed concern that Dallewal’s condition was worsening every day. Why doesn’t the Punjab government shift him to the hospital? This is their responsibility. The authorities will take a decision if he needs to be admitted to hospital.
4. Questions were raised on Punjab government and farmer leaders The court showed a strict stance in the hearing on 28 December. The court told the Punjab government that first you create problems, then you say you cannot do anything. Shift them to the hospital with the help of the centre. In this, on the protest of the farmers, the court said that it has never heard of any movement to stop anyone from being taken to the hospital. This is like incitement to suicide. What kind of farmer leaders are they who want Dallewal to die? Pressure is visible on Dallewal. Those who are opposing his hospitalization are not his well-wishers.
Dallewal said- attempt to attack on the front Seeing the preparations of the police, Dallewal issued a video message on Sunday night alleging that the Punjab government is preparing to attack the front. This is an attempt to crush the front. Dallewal is demanding a law to guarantee minimum purchase price (MSP) of crops. Dallewal said that the British government also believed in Satyagraha. But instead of listening to us, this government is trying to crush our front. Punjab government is working on the instructions of the Centre.
