The Jammu and Kashmir Police ordered an inquiry after a video surfaced on Monday, in which a police officer in Kulgam district is seen kicking a woman protestor.
Kashmir Zone Police said in a post on X, ‘A video has surfaced on social media about the conduct of police officer with people in Kulgam. We have taken cognizance of the allegations about tomorrow’s incident and the conduct of the officer.
The post said that the DIG South Kashmir Range (SKR) will investigate the incident on Sunday and submit a report within 10 days. Earlier, PDP leader Iltija Mufti criticized the officer’s behavior and demanded an inquiry.
Mufti wrote on X, ‘Kicking a woman by a policeman is shocking and indecent because she was protesting peacefully against mysterious deaths in Devsar Kulgam. This harsh behavior of the officials expecting to maintain the law creates a lack of trust in the people and makes them even isolated.
In fact, on Sunday, the body of a young man was recovered from a reservoir, which was one of the three people missing since last month. After this, protests started in the district. Three days ago, his brother’s body was also recovered from the same section. Meanwhile, a search operation for the third missing person continues.
