Pahalgam terror attack: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has detained dozens of Pakistani citizens in various districts of the valley for disregarding the orders of the government after the death of 26 civilians in the Pahalgam terror attack. Most of them are women.
Highly placed sources said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has sent notices to at least 34 foreign nationals who disregard the orders to leave the country. These people have come to Jammu and Kashmir on short term visas and they do not include long term visa holders, whose number is about 80. Among those who have been sent notices, there are 12 Pakistani Hindus who came to meet their families, most of whom are in Jammu region.
Jammu and Kashmir Police detained 50 people
The Jammu and Kashmir Police has detained at least 50 people, most of which are women, who came from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He was living in the valley for many years and her children were born here. The total number of such persons who came to Jammu and Kashmir with their Kashmiri husbands during the 2010 “terrorist rehabilitation policy” are about 300. He said that all the persons taken into custody have already been given notice to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), CID Special Branch (SB) Kashmir to leave India, who also take charge of the Foreign Registration Officer (FRO) in Kashmir.

An official said that this action is being taken in compliance with the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs (Foreign-I Division) in compliance with 25022/28/2025-F dated 25 April 2025. He said that it was directed in the order that all the foreign nationals (Pakistani) living illegally in India should leave the country by or before April 27, 2025.
Pakistani citizens living in Kashmir even after the deadline ended
Despite notices and deadlines, many Pakistani citizens are living in Kashmir. Acting on this lapse, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has started a coordinated campaign to detain all those who failed to follow the government order. Sources said that the detained Pakistani citizens will be helped to reach the Wagah border, where they will be handed over to the Pakistani officials after completing the necessary formalities.
Concerns have arisen in the families related to this step, especially because many women have been living in Kashmir for years and have family relations. No official public statement has been received about the number of people detained so far, but sources have confirmed that preparations are going on and it is being handled at senior administrative levels.
Government had ordered to leave the country
The government had said that any Pakistani, who fails to leave India according to the time limit fixed by the central government, will be arrested, prosecuted and may face a jailor of up to three years or a maximum fine of Rs 3 lakh or both. Meanwhile, Pakistani wives of former Kashmiri terrorists rehabilitated under the 2010 policy have expressed deep anguish over India’s latest visa sanctions, said she would prefer to die instead of being deported.
These women, who had reached Kashmir with their husbands, who had left terrorism and joined the mainstream under the rehabilitation policy of the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He said that instead of forcing him to return to Pakistan alive, the government can send him back to the bodies of bodies.
