Jasprit bumrah on missing indiais Captaincy | Jasprit Bumrah told why the captaincy of the Indian Test team rejected

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket during IPL 2025. After this, Jasprit Bumrah was the first choice of Ajit Agarkar -led Selection Committee for the captain. In Rohit’s absence, Bumrah captained India in three Tests in Australia. He suffered a back injury during the last Test match of the series, after which he had to stay out of the ground for about 4 months. Bumrah rejected the captaincy due to this injury and concerns of workload.

Jasprit Bumrah had a long conversation with Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports. Bumrah said that he had discussed his workload with BCCI officials and selectors before Rohit and Kohli’s retirement. Doctors and physio advised him to manage the workload to lengthen his career. For this reason, he decided to stay away from the captaincy. Bumrah then informed the BCCI that his name should not be considered for the captaincy as he is not confident that he would be able to play all five matches of the series.

Indian Pesar said, ‘Yes, BCCI used to see me as a leader. Despite this, I had to reject the captaincy offer. After all, it is not appropriate for the team that there are different captains in the same series. I always prioritize the needs of the team. On his difficult decision, Bumrah said, sometimes you have to consider a big picture. I like to play more cricket than captaincy. I want to contribute as a player. I informed the BCCI that I am not ready for the role of captaincy because I want to play for maximum time.
