'There should be focus on winning the match, Sachin's record ...' Joe Root's statementJoe Root scored a century in the first innings of the fourth Test.
New Delhi. England senior batsman Joe Root said on Saturday that Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring the most runs in Test cricket would not be a ‘focus’ of his career. Root, 34, said that he is paying more attention to winning the match for England. Root became the second highest run -scorer in this format, leaving behind Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting by scoring 150 (248) against India in the fourth Test.

His total runs have been 13,409, which is only 2512 runs behind Tendulkar’s 15,921 runs. He is closest to this record, which could not be broken for many years. He said, “Such things happen on their own. The focus should be on winning the match… He made a Test debut before I was born. It was very great to play with him on the same field and get a chance to play against him. There were someone who got older, praised, tried to learn from them.

Root further said, “Playing in a series where he was still playing was a really memorable experience that I will never forget.” Route was also asked about the standing ovation that he got from the crowd of Old Trafford on crossing Ponting’s run. “I can’t ignore it. But you try to keep it out of your mind.”

Root has scored more than 80 runs on an average from the beginning of last year, and if he can maintain this rate, it may take them about three years to reach the top. Root explained the change in its mindset. Root also explained how he has developed himself in years.
