Delimitation: The issue of delimitation which was raised from Tamil Nadu, has now reached many states of the country. The states, which are likely to reduce the representation of the states in Parliament, have now joined this battle of Tamil Nadu CM Stalin.
Till now only statements were coming on this issue, but action is also going to start from today. Actually, today the first big meeting on the issue of delimitation is to be held in Chennai. In this meeting, the Tamil Nadu government invited Chief Ministers of 7 states. Out of these, the Chief Minister of three states, deputy CM of one state and representatives from the rest of the states are going to attend this big meeting.
Who are coming to the meeting?
Kerala Chief Minister P Vijayan has reached Chennai. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann are also coming. Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivkumar has also agreed to attend the meeting. Apart from these, representatives of West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress, Odisha opposition party Biju Janata Dal and Andhra Pradesh opposition party YSR-Congress are also going to attend this meeting.
A Joint Action Committee has been formed to oppose the delimitation under the leadership of CM Stalin. Today will be the first meeting of this committee. The purpose of this meeting is to prepare every effort to prevent the delimitation process and establish solidarity among the states.
What is delimitation and what is fighting?
The country has not been delighted since the last 5 decades. After the year 2026, it is considered to be fixed. In the delimitation, the seats of the Lok Sabha will be distributed according to the population. That is, in the state where there is more population, there will be more seats and where there is less population, that state will get less seats.
Looking at the population figures of 2011, there has been a huge increase in population in North Indian states, while the population in South Indian states was under control. In such a situation, it is clear that the Lok Sabha seats in the states of North India like UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, MP will increase a major increase, while the representation of South Indian states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana will be reduced in Parliament. This is the reason that the South Indian states have come face to face with the Center on this issue.
