Karnataka Bike Taxi Riders Rally at Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru: Due to a decision of the High Court of Karnataka, bike taxi has been banned in the state. Due to which the lives of millions of people have derailed. There was a strong performance in Bengaluru today (Saturday) against this ban.
More than 5000 bike drivers (riders) gathered from 8 districts of the state and demanded the removal of the ban on the bike taxi. At the same time, the drivers urged the government to formulate a new policy.
These drivers came from Mysore, Mandya, Hasan, Davangere, Tumkuru, Ramnagar, Shivamogga and Kanakpura. Aaj Tak correspondent Sagai Raj covered this entire performance and has talked to the drivers.
Talking to Aaj Tak, Ramesh, the driver of Tumkur’s bike taxi, said that he is facing problems after the bike service was banned. Earlier, he used to run his house due to bike taxi. But now there is no source of income. Children’s school fees are also outstanding and food and drink are also being made.
At the same time, Ravi, a bike taxi driver from Mysore, told during the conversation that he lives with his wife and two children. Due to the ban on bike taxi service, he could not run the house properly. He is no longer capable of paying electricity bills and rent. Life is going on on credit. Due to the ban on the service, not only the income, but also the honor has been taken away.
Priya, who came to attend the Bangalore performance from Mandya, said that we are ready to accept the rules. But, let the right to live.
Riders, who came in the demonstration, said that 19 states across the country have already implemented safe and controlled laws regarding bike taxi service. So why is Karnataka behind in doing so?
Ban on bike taxi service is not just a driver, passengers also upset
Not only the drivers are upset due to the ban on bike taxi service. Passengers are also having trouble with this and their expenses are increasing. Last mile connectivity has been affected due to the ban on service.
The drivers who came to protest performed peacefully and submitted a memorandum to the state government. Drivers hope that the government will meet the expectation of thousands of families and will take concrete steps as soon as possible.
