In Karnataka, a bill can come in the assembly today to make sub quota within Scheduled Castes (SC) reservation. The state cabinet on Tuesday approved this bill dividing 17% SC reservation into three parts.
The decision was taken on the suggestion of HN Nagmohan Das Commission. However, the Commission had recommended the reservation to be divided into five parts. On August 1, 2024, the seven-member bench of the Supreme Court justified Sab-Kota in SC reservation constitutionally correct.
After the bill is passed, Karnataka will become the fourth state where all will be applicable in SC reservation. Telangana, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh have implemented Sab-Kota in SC reservation.
What is Dalit Ride and Dalit Left Group The castes involved in the Dalit Wright Group emphasize on strengthening religious and cultural identity. These castes are considered financially strong. Right now these castes dominate the SC reservation received by the state government. These include castes like Madiga.
At the same time, the castes included in the Dalit left group support revolutionary changes to eliminate caste system and discrimination. These include castes like Holia. Apart from these, the remaining castes fall under the category of others.
Some castes against the recommendations of the commission The Das Commission submitted its report to the government on August 4. After this, some castes objected to the recommendation of the Commission. However, the report has not been made public.
An organization called Jatigala Okuta concerned Karnataka State Balgai alleged that Araya, Adi Karnataka, Adi Dravid, etc. are part of the Dalit Wright Group like Andhra, Holara, but the Commission has excluded them from this group.
At the same time, the people of the Balgai caste alleged that the Commission has presented incorrect figures of their population. These have been shown to be reduced from 50 lakhs to 20 lakhs. However, the figures recorded in the report are based on the Government of Karnataka.
