Karur rally stampede: ‘Not 500, there were 100 policemen on the road …’, Annamalai targeted the police and government

Tamil Nadu BJP President K.K. on the controversy arising out of a stampede during Vijay’s rally in Karur. Annamalai has targeted an actor-consentor. He said that it was an irresponsible step to organize a rally on the weekend at night and the state police failed in the mob management. Annamalai also demanded a CBI inquiry into the entire case.

Vijay accused of irresponsibility
In a conversation with CNN-News 18, Annamalai said that Vijay should plan the rallies with more responsibility. He said, ‘Vijay’s mistake is that he keeps the program on weekend. They should behave more responsibly. If there is a program on weekend, then keep it in the afternoon, so that people can easily see you. Why kept it at night? Where were TVK Volunteers deployed? ‘

On Saturday, there was a stampede during Vijay’s rally in Karur, in which at least 39 people died and dozens of people were admitted to the hospital.

CBI inquiry demands
Annamalai demanded an inquiry from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of this tragedy. However, he clarified that he was not directly accusing Vijay. He said that the state police had completely failed in mob management, while there was a warning of potential danger already.

He said, ‘The DGP claimed that 500 policemen were deployed, but less than 100 appeared on the road. The permission was given in a narrow street, where the ambulance could not even go. The police should think a hundred times before giving such permission.

Question on accountability and negligence
The BJP leader also directly targeted the officials. He said, ‘Responsible officials should be suspended. Only the CBI investigation can bring out the truth. Annamalai alleged that the mob management in Tamil Nadu is becoming a problem repeatedly and for this the negligence of the ruling DMK government is responsible.

Prime Minister and Chief Minister’s response
Condoling the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2-2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 thousand to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The PMO posted on X, ‘The unfortunate incident during the political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu is very sad.’

At the same time, Chief Minister MK Stalin has constituted an inquiry commission under the chairmanship of Madras High Court retired Judge Aruna Jagadisin to investigate the incident.

Petition in High Court
