The stampede has shocked the entire state during the rally of Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam (TVK), the party of actor-politics Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu. In this painful accident, 40 people, including 10 children, died, while many people were injured. Now this case has reached the court door.

Demand for independent inquiry from High Court
TVK said on Sunday that it will knock the door of the Madurai bench of Madras High Court for an independent investigation into the accident. The party alleges that this stampede was not a contingent but the result of ‘conspiracy’. TVK also pointed to stone pelting in the crowd and police lathicharge at the venue. TVK counsel Arivazhagan told NDTV that the party has filed a petition in the Madras High Court, demanding the court to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) or hand over the case to the central agency CBI.

Arivazhagan rejected the state government’s claim that security guidelines were violated at the Karur rally. According to sources, Justice N. of Madras High Court. Senthilkumar will hear the immediate petition filed in this case at 4:30 pm on Monday evening. The petition has demanded that TVK should be prevented from organizing any public meeting till the investigation of Karur stampede.

Eyewitnesses told horrific circumstances
Witnesses of the accident said that just before Vijay’s arrival, the power suddenly went down. The narrow roads and rising crowds increased the chaos. Many families got separated amidst the stampede, women and children suffocated. Post mortem reports have also caused suffocation due to many deaths. The next day at the scene, the shoes and slippers, torn clothes and broken bottles were making a terrible statement of the accident.

Vijay announced compensation
Actor Vijay said in his message on Sunday that his heart is broken and he is in deep sorrow. He announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 2-2 lakh to the injured. Vijay said “This is an irreparable loss. As a member of your family, I am with you in this grief.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also reached Karur and met the injured in the hospital. He assured the victim families of all possible government help and said that all necessary medical facilities are being provided.

Two and a half times more crowd gathered than capacity
Around 27,000 people reached the TV chief Vijay’s Karur rally where 10,000 people had a capacity. According to the DGP, Vijay reached the venue at 7:40 pm. As soon as his vehicle entered inside, a large number of workers also entered with him and got into the already present crowd. This suddenly increased the pressure of the crowd and the situation worsened.
