TVK chief Vijay is not named in the FIR, but the names of three party officials Mathialgan (Karur District Secretary), Bussi N Anand (State General Secretary) and CTR Nirmal Kumar (State Joint Secretary) are included in it. It said that Vijay did a road show without permission before reaching Velusamipuram and his vehicle stopped there.

What did the police say about the incident,

It was also said in the FIR that TVK officials did not handle their workers properly or did not pay attention to the warnings of the police against the crowd. The police said in the FIR, ‘The workers were sitting on top of the tin sheets and branches of trees, due to which they fell on the people standing below. As a result, many people suffocated.

The death toll in the stampede increased to 41 on Monday (September 29, 2025) with the death of a 60 -year -old woman injured in the hospital. According to the FIR, at around 4.45 pm, TVK chief Vijay entered the Karur district via Velayathamapalayam and Thavitupalam bordering the district. It said, ‘Vijay deliberately delayed by doing road shows without permission in many places.’

The FIR stated that a reception ceremony was organized at many places, violating the conditions, which led to a delay. Giving details of the events before the stampede, the FIR states that Vijay reached Velusamipuram Junction by seven in the evening. It said, ‘Vijay’s promotional vehicle stopped amidst a huge crowd of party workers and was deliberately delayed for some time. There was a huge crowd of workers and common people at that place.

Police warned TV workers over danger

Police Inspector G. Mathialgan said that he and the Deputy Superintendent of Police warned TV officials Mathialgan, Anand and Nirmal Kumar about the serious threat to extreme congestion.

A police officer said that a case has been registered against the three party officials Section 105 (culpable homicide) of the Indian Code, 110 (attempt to kill non-honor), 125 (endangering the lives of others) and 223 (disobedience of order) as well as Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Public Property (Damage and Damage Prevention) Act, 1992.

The FIR said, ‘The party officials were warned about the uncontrollable crowd and unusual situation, causing suffocation, serious injury and death. Policemen deployed for protection due to increasing crowds could not handle it.

Meditation on warning did not pay, indulged in unusual activities- police

The FIR states that TV officials did not pay attention to the warning and indulged in unusual activities. The officials did not even stop the workers from sitting on the tin sheets in front of the branches of shops and trees. The FIR states that the organizers deliberately delayed Vijay’s arrival to show their political strength by showing huge crowds. Due to such a delay, thousands of people waiting for hours were disturbed due to heat and thirst. The police also said that there was no medical facility there.

At the same time, a source in TVK said that the police told Vijay not to go to the government hospital to meet the stampede victims due to sensitive law and order situation. A senior TVK leader said, “Initially he had planned to meet the injured and console them, but he was told that his presence could increase the crowd.”
