Kerala High Court Asks State Government if it planning to make act against jadu tona

The Kerala High Court has asked the state government about its earlier statement that it is considering enacting laws against misdeeds like black magic.

The Kerala government filed an argument in October 2022 during the hearing of the petition of an organization named Kerala Yuktiist Sangham. The petition demanded a law against such practices.

The petition was dismissed in June 2023 due to the petitioner organization not representing anyone, but it was later restored.

When the case came to hear before the bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Basant Balaji on June 3, the court directed the government to file an affidavit about its earlier statement about its stance in relation to this statement that it was considering enacting a law on the subject.

The bench has decided to hold the next hearing of the case on 24 June. The organization has said in its petition that Justice (Retired) K.T. The Law Reform Commission headed by Thomas submitted a comprehensive report to the state of Kerala in the year 2019, making legislative recommendations based on new social conditions.

The organization has claimed, ‘Kerala is one of the recommended Bills-2019 Bill-2019 Bills, Kerala inhuman evils, witchcraft and black magic prevention and elimination Bill, but no effort has been made by the state so far.’

This petition was filed in the year 2022 in view of the human sacrifice of two women on behalf of three people including a couple in the Pattamthitta district of Kerala. The petition claimed that laws have been passed against witchcraft and black magic from the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
