Triple talaq case in kerala: In Kerala, a person accused of calling his wife three talaq simultaneously has been arrested on the phone. Police said on Saturday (25 January 2025) that Abdul Basit, a resident of Myanagapalli in Kollam district, was arrested two days ago and was sent to 14 days judicial custody.
Get another marriage by giving wrong information
Police said that Basit has been booked under the relevant sections of the Muslim Women (Protection of Marriage Rights) Act, BNS and is currently in judicial custody in Chavra Upazel. According to the police, Basit was arrested on the complaint of his 20 -year -old wife, who hails from Chavra in Kollam. According to the complaint, Basit did another marriage without disclosing about his first marriage. After this second marriage, Basit allegedly took him to a rented house, because his first wife was living in his family house.
Accused of mental and physical harassment
The complainant alleged that when he came to know about the first marriage, he asked Basit about him, he started being mentally and physical harassment. The complainant says that Basit also threatened to marry another woman, after which the talk between them started deteriorating. The complaint states that the complainant came to his maternal home after a quarrel between the two.
Basit allegedly called him on January 19 and announced to end his relationship on the phone, calling him three divorces. The central government has made a provision of three years sentence by bringing triple talaq under the purview of crime, which many Muslim organizations also challenged in the Supreme Court.
