The special CBI court has pronounced the sentence in the double murder case that took place in the year 2019 in Periya city of Kasaragod district in Kerala. The court has sentenced 10 accused to life imprisonment. Along with this, four other people including former CPI(M) MLA KV Kunhiraman have been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. These culprits were accused of murdering two Youth Congress workers.

After the court’s decision, the prosecutor said that life imprisonment has been given in two cases, which will run concurrently. The accused sentenced to life imprisonment include former CPI(M) Periya local committee member A Peethambaran, Suresh, Saji George, Anilkumar, Jijin, Srirag, Ashwin, Sudheesh, Ranjith and Surendran. A case was registered against them under sections 302, 120 (B) and 149 of the IPC.

Meanwhile, former MLA and CPI(M) district leader KV Kunhiraman, Kanhangarh block panchayat president K Manikandan, Velutholi Raghavan and AV Bhaskaran were sentenced to five years imprisonment by the court. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on each convict. On December 28, the CBI court had found the first eight of the 24 accused guilty on charges of murder and conspiracy.

Along with this, six accused were found guilty of conspiracy, destroying evidence and providing assistance in the commission of crime. 10 accused were acquitted in this case. The case pertains to the murder of Youth Congress workers Kripesh (19) and Sarath Lal PK (24) by CPI(M) workers on February 17, 2019. The result of enmity between CPI(M) and Congress workers.

Let us tell you that in February this year, a local leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was brutally murdered during a temple festival in Kozhikode district of Kerala. The deceased was identified as PV Sathyanathan, who had gone to Cheriyapuram temple in Koyilandy to attend a concert. During this time he was ambushed and attacked with an axe.

Due to this he suffered wounds on his back and neck. There was chaos after this incident. Satyanathan was immediately taken to the hospital in injured condition, where he died. The killers who attacked Satyanathan immediately fled after committing the crime. Police had said that they suspected that Satyanathan was attacked due to personal or political enmity.
