A case of rape has come to light in the hostel of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta. Kolkata police said that yesterday a girl had lodged a complaint at Haridevpur police station that a student raped her in the hostel of IIM college. After the case was registered, accused Mahavir Toppanwar alias Parmanand Jain has been arrested. Accused MBA is being described as a second year student. The police is investigating the matter.
According to the news agency PTI, according to the Kolkata police, the accused was produced in the court from where he has been sent to police custody for 7 days. The next hearing will be held on July 19, when the accused will be produced in court again.
Regarding this incident, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary questioned the law and order and said that law and order in Bengal is getting weaker day by day. Crimes against women are increasing and there is no fear of law among criminals. Due to the negligence of the government, women are falling victim to such crimes. The government will have to take strict steps to punish these criminals. Criminals of Bengal are not afraid of law. They are constantly committing crimes.
In view of the seriousness of the case, the police is engaged in investigation. It is alleged that this incident happened within the IIM-Kolkata campus, which has also raised questions on the security system of the country’s top educational institutions. However, no official statement has come from the IIM Calcutta administration so far.
