Lalit Modi Citizenship: Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi has applied to surrender Indian passports at the Indian High Commission in London. Lalit Modi has taken citizenship of Vanuatu.
According to a report by news agency ANI, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday (March 07, 2025) that Lalit Modi has taken citizenship of South Pacific Island. In response to Lalit Modi’s question of taking citizenship of Vanuatu, on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that it is in our notice that he has taken citizenship of another country and has applied to surrender Indian passports.

He said, ‘According to the law against Lalit Modi, all the cases are being investigated’. Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘Their case will be investigated under existing rules and procedures. We have also been told that they have gained citizenship in Vanuatu ‘.
‘Lalit Modi left India soon after IPL 2010’
Lalit Modi, former vice -president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is accused of violating rigging, money laundering and Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA). According to a report by news agency PTI, Lalit Modi was suspended from BCCI immediately after IPL 2010 when he left India and came to know that he is living in London.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has alleged that Lalit Modi, while working as the chairman of the IPL Governing Council, fraudulently committed a fraud of Rs 753 crore in collusion with the World Sports Group (WSG) officials.
