The new Bill, which completely changing the grievance redressal system of sports administration and players in the country, has been introduced in Parliament on Monday (August 4, 2025). This bill mentions many major changes from the operation of sports associations to the rights and financial transparency of the players.
Terror and age limit fixed in sports associations
According to the Bill, in any sports association, the president, general secretary and treasurer can remain in their posts for a maximum of three consecutive terms i.e. a total of 12 years. The age limit for office bearers has been fixed at 70 years, but according to international rules it can be extended to 75 years at the time of enrollment.
Small and balanced executive committees
The executive committee of any sports association will now have a maximum of 15 members. It will be mandatory to include at least two excellent players and four women. This step is considered important in sports administration to include gender equality and players in the decision process.
National Sports Board (NSB) Will be the highest authority
The most important feature of this bill is the formation of the National Sports Board (NSB). This board will have the highest right to recognize or suspend all the national sports associations (NSFs) of the country. Also, this board will be able to work for the welfare of players by collaborating with international sports organizations.
The Central Government will appoint members of NSB. A search cum selection committee will be formed for appointment, headed by Cabinet Secretary or Sports Secretary. The committee will consist of the player of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), two experienced sports administrators and a prestigious award players.
Emphasis on right to cancel recognition and transparency
The board will have the right that if a sports organization does not conduct elections on time, disturbances in the election process or misuse public money, it can cancel or suspend its recognition. However, before doing this, it will be mandatory to consult the concerned global institution. Only those Sports Association will be able to get financial assistance or help from the Central Government, which would have been recognized by the National Sports Board (NSB).
Preparation of new era in sports world
Experts believe that this bill can prove to be a historic step towards making sports administration more transparent in the country and increasing the participation of players.
