The fifth day of curfew on Sunday in Leh. At first it felt that if there was a relaxation of curfew, people will be able to say openly, but only the people of count have come out. Silence everywhere. Despite the arrest of social activist Sonam Wangchuk, peace remains.

In the September 24 violence, 3 young and 46 -year -old ex -soldier Sevang Tharating was killed. Thharching Kargil had fought the war. From 1996 to 2017, military and Ladakh had served as the Havildar of Scouts. Two of these four Jigmet Dorjay and Stanjin Namagya were cremated on Sunday. Local and national media also wanted to join it, but 200m from Jigmet’s house. The police already stopped and said- is not permission.

The media persons were stopped at Ghoda Chowk. To reach here, where we passed from where we passed, the same question was asked to the people found on the way- Is Wangchuk the biggest issue of Ladakh or something else, who had been burning for years, are it torn now?

Local people answers on Bhaskar’s question

  • Dorje Angchuk, former president of Ladakh Unemployed Association, resident of Kargil Told that there is no recruitment board in Ladakh. Therefore, the job does not go out. More jobs used to come out when Ladakh was not a union territory. And
  • Senior educationist and supporters of Wangchuk On the condition of anonymity, he said that 26% of the youth in Ladakh are unemployed. Still government recruitment has reduced. The youth have only one task- tourism. The condition is that more drivers are seen than all the tourists do not come. The day the curfew is removed, you talk to the youth here, it will be known whether they are stone -pelters or meritorious.
  • Former Ladakh counselor Gurmet Dorje Questioning the sidelines of the shepherds raise questions. Gurmet says, ‘I come from the same Changpa community that grazes its goats on the Leh-Manali highway, which makes Pashmina Shawl. The radius of about 150 km from the shepherds to Kharla is being sold for solar energy.

These shepherds with a population of about 4 thousand graze their 30 to 40 thousand goats in that ground for 8 months of the year, where will they go. The biggest thing is that I was neither informed about the sale of the ground nor the shepherds were talked to. There was a lot of agitation against it, but there is no hearing anywhere.

  • Lower Leh’s current counselor sharing nomination Fear that democracy is ending here. It is said that elections of sarpanch, panch, municipality are not being held. When we were with Kashmir, two MLAs from Kargil, two from Leh and one MLC and one MP were elected. Now everything is closed.
  • When there will be no assembly at the village and city levels deciding the policy, then how will the board, job, cultural priority, protecting tribes or environmental protection. We are just alive in this environment.

Four people in police custody

Ladakh Bar Association President Mohammad Shafi Lasu said that Congress councilor Samanla Dorje Nurbo and Futsog Stagine Tsepak, Ladakh Buddhist Association Vice President Savin Rigjin and village numberdar Rigjin Dorje have been sent to police custody. The rest of the accused, including Leh Apex Body and Ladakh Buddhist Association’s young leaders and students, have been sent to judicial custody.

The BJP office was burnt by protesters in Leh violence. CRPF car was set on fire.

Why are the people of Ladakh so angry?

  1. Domicile Policy: On 27 May 2025, Ladakh, a Domicile Policy, got. But people were not happy with this, because their first demand was that those who have settled here before 1989 are its beneficiaries. If the government did not agree on this, then the second demand kept that those who will complete 30 years while living here after 2019, consider them local, but the government made it 15 years, which caused heavy dissatisfaction in the public.
  2. Colony Settlement: 20-25 years ago, people from Nubra, Changthang etc. came and settled in Leh. They bought lands and built houses, but till date their houses have not been registered. There are 6-7 thousand such families. Similarly, the colonies that the government settled in 1976, whose lease period was 40 years old, was completed in 2016, did not renew the lease.
  3. Apex body ignoring: According to the state’s senior agitator and religious guru Nanktak Lama, ‘Apex body is being ignored. People are afraid that if Ladakh is not taken in the sixth schedule, then the condition of their state will also become like Manali in Himachal.
  4. Action against Wangchuk: The public is angry with the cancellation of one thousand kanal land of Wangchuk’s institution. He says that lands are being given to the outsiders on one side and on the other hand, which is giving alternative avenues at the level of research for the country, they are calling it a criminal.
