Liabilities On States: There has been a huge increase in liabilities of state governments from 2020 to 2025. According to the data taken for 20 states, Delhi has seen the highest increase in liabilities in the last five years. At present Delhi’s liability has increased by 337 percent. Apart from this, the liabilities of Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu increased by more than 100 percent.
According to the budget estimate data of RBI, the Delhi government had a liability of Rs 3 thousand 631 crore in 2020, which increased to Rs 15 thousand 881 crore in 2025. If seen, Delhi’s liability increased by Rs 12,250 crore, which increased by 337 percent.
Liabilities on these states are above 100 percent
After Delhi, the liability of Assam government has increased by 142 percent. In 2020, Assam had a liability of Rs 73 thousand 528 crore, which increased to Rs 1 lakh 77 thousand 983 crore in 2025. Similarly, in Madhya Pradesh the liability increased by 127 percent. This BJP ruled state had a liability of Rs 2 lakh 11 thousand 489 crore in 2020, which increased to Rs 4 lakh 80 thousand 976 crore in 2025. Whereas in Congress ruled Karnataka there was an increase of 114 percent. Karnataka’s liability of Rs 3 lakh 38 thousand 666 crore in 2020 increased to Rs 7 lakh 25 thousand 456 crore in 2025. Similarly, the liability of Tamil Nadu has increased by 107 percent. In 2020, Tamil Nadu had a liability of Rs 4 lakh 62 thousand 202 crore, which increased to Rs 9 lakh 55 thousand 691 crore in 2025.
Know the condition of other states
The liability of Telangana government has increased by 96 percent. Where the liability in 2020 was Rs 2 lakh 25 thousand 418 crore, it will become Rs 4 lakh 42 thousand 298 crore in 2025. Similarly, the liability of Chhattisgarh government increased by 90 percent. The amount which was Rs 86 thousand 6 crore in 2020 will increase to Rs 1 lakh 63 thousand 266 crore in 2025.
If we talk about Bihar, the liability in 2020 was Rs 1 lakh 93 thousand 534 crore, which increased to Rs 3 lakh 61 thousand 522 crore in 2025. Bihar government has registered an increase of 87 percent in these five years. Andhra Pradesh government saw an increase of 83 percent. The amount which was Rs 3 lakh 7 thousand 672 crore in 2020 will become Rs 5 lakh 62 thousand 557 crore in 2025.
Rajasthan government had a liability of Rs 3 lakh 53 thousand 182 crore in 2020. In 2025, it will increase by 80 percent to Rs 6 lakh 37 thousand 35 crore. Similarly, the Kerala government had to pay Rs 2,67,585 crore in 2020, which increased to Rs 4,71,91 crore in 2025. An increase of 76 percent was recorded in Kerala.
